Alternate Life

Cino walked on the sidewalk at Midland College and observed the surroundings. It was around fall time and the surrounding trees scattered in the courtyard were a rainbow of colors. The leaves had also started falling and left the ground covered in a beauty of colors. The courtyard center contained a few benches. The day was still rather young with only a few people walking about the campus grounds. It was still early in the morning as the sun had just started to cast its rays upon the courtyard. Cino wandered over to a bench in the center of the courtyard and sat down. He simply sighed a bit as he closed his eyes and relaxed.

"This is really starting to get boring..." Cino muttered as he took in a deep breath. A slight vibration and familiar three ring chime uttered from the pocket of Cino's long coat. He slowly reached into his pocket and removed his phone. He looked at the small screen which read 'unknown number' and flipped the phone open. He brought it up to his ear.

"Who is this?" He nearly whispered. The only audible sound was a wash of static. Cino quickly retracted the phone from his ear and shut it which a click. He shook his head and looked at the time on the phone. It read 8:30 am. Cino took a deep breath.

"Jeez, half an hour still till my stupid history class." Cino retracted his arms and placed them behind his head as the sun slowly started to bathe the courtyard.

Light snored loudly, asleep on his bed. His alarm suddenly screeched, making him bolt his head up, and fall out of his bed, his covers comming down with him. The alarm still screeching, he whipped the covers off his head, and hit the alarm. It buzzed to a stop. He yawned, opening his mouth wide, and got up, walking over to his dresser. He looked in the mirror, and drew back when he saqw himself. He was a mess. His hair, usually down to his shoulders, was everywhere. It stuck out in odd angles and came to a puff at the top of his head.

"ah, man. knew I shoulda slept different. this is gonna take forever..."

he trailed off, looking at his alarm clock that had gone off a moment earler. He opened his eyes wide when he saw the time.

"AH!!! 8:30! my class starts in a half hour!"

he ran around the room, grabbing his long black zip up hoodie, the sleeves on the wrong side, and he flipped them inside out, and threw it onto his bed. He grabbed his baggy jeans, and threw them on his bed, on top of his hoodie. He ran into the bathroom, and turned the sink water on. He plunged his head into the water, and yelled at how cold it was. He stood there for a second, then grabbed out, grabbing a towl that was next to the sink. He got his head out of the water and started to dry his hair, it leaving small rivers of water running down his neck. After he dried his hair, he shook his head, like a dog, brining his hair to rest on his head, his bangs going down, covering his eyes, his back, going down to his neck, and his sides flooping on his ears. He yawned again, and looked in the mirror again. His eyes, were dull and looked groggy, and he sighed. One was brown, the left, and the other was hazel. He wished that he could get contacts to make them the same, but he didnt need them. Everyone would always stare at him if they saw it. Realizing it was almost time for class, he ran out of the bathroom, and threw on his jeans, grabbing a belt and pulled them together. He took his hoodie, and threw it on over his black shirt, with a large white skull on it. He grabbed his cell phone, a black razor, and flipped it open, checking to see if he had gotten any messages. He had none, so he put it in his pocket, and grabbed his shoes, puttinghem on. He started to race out the door, but stopped, grabbing his books for his next few classes. He ran out of the door, slamming it behind him. He raced out of the dorm, running to the center courtyard, and suddenly tripped on a wet spot, and slid forward, falling and skidding to a stop. He cringed, and slowly got up, brushing off the colored leaves and dirt off him. He looked at his arms, and saw no cuts or bruises. He sighed, and looked up. He saw Cinco, and walked over to him.

"Hey Cino. How ya doin today."

he grinned, and yawned again, still tired. He wasnt used to waking up this early, even though it was close to the middle of the year.

Sokanon had been in her room all day reading up on her mythology course loseing herself in the tale of pysce and cupid, her favorite one, when she realized it was time for class, so she slipped on her white socks and black boots pulling her jeans down over them she left her dorm sighing to her self she wished she could just stay there and read more.

she was walking through the court yard and saw her friends light and cino so she started walking over to them * i wonder if light will fall asleep again or not* she wondered *well if he does i hope he wont snore again this time* she giggled to herself

Cino opened one eye slightly over to Light.

"I see you're tired again Light." The sun's rays began to wash over Cino's face as his eyelids flickered at the light before finally opening.

"Mmm, I think our class is about to start in like fifteen but where's Sokanon? She's usually here before you." Cino chuckled a bit before retracting his arms to his sides.

He gave Cino his infamous 'stoner look' as everyone else dcalled it, and gave him a fake laugh

"you know I'm not made to wake up before 1pm. heh."

he grinned, but stopped when he heard giggling.

"man...she's here..."

he looked around, and saw Sokanon, and gave her his look as well.

"Sokanon...lauhging again I see."

he held his look, and remembered what happened in class one day. He was sitting there, asleep as usual, when he had twitched, and sudenly jerked to the side. Sokanon had been sitting beside him and he ran smach dab in the middle of her chest. She jumped up, screaming, and he suddenly woke up, moving his head to the side. He was facing her chest. She screamed again, and shook, making him fly to the ground in front of the class. Everyone started busting out laughing, and all he could do was try and nake himself seem smaller, sneaking back to his seat. She had forgiven him, but she still laughed occasionally about it.

"most times" she said walking up smileing though she stood by cino and looked at light she sighed you know if u wake up earlier and go to sleep sooner it wouldnt be so bad going to class...." she sighed smileing "how do you manage to even pass" she asked him jokeingly

He grinned, and pulled out a peice of paper, shoving it in fron of her face. It was his transcript, with his grades on it.

"I'm passing every class thank you. I even have all A's. I can do most of our classes in our sleep."

he laughed at his joke, and put the paper away. he sighed.

"the only class I hate is History. Why do we have to learn about stuff that happened in the past anyway? seriously. its so boring...now Science. thats my kinda class. and chemistry."

he laughed, remembering the ast time he had causd havoc in that class. he had turned a couple students simple hydrogen sulfate mixture into a hydrogen bomb. It wasnt a big one, but it caused their hair to be ripped off in places. No one but Cino and Sokanon knew he had done it. the whole time it had been happening the teacher had been rambling on. the students were too busy loking at her talking to notice his hand moving chemicals into the mixture. it had exploded a moment later. It had been chaos. he laughed.

"Do you always have to complain in the morning like that? Ugh." Cino sighed before noticing the courtyard which had become more congested with students.

"Anyways...its about that time to head to class huh? And I don't want to see you sleeping again in history class Light, you know we have our mid-term soon."

he grinned, and put his hands behind his head.

"I got it covered. I'll just make her think I'm awake this time. she usually smacks me awake anyway. geez....old lady...well, anyway...I'l just sit in the very back. heh. besides, its not like I'll be missing much. its the same crap every year. wehavent gotten past the cold war since high school. I've gotten to know it like the back of my hand now."

he picked out his cell phone from his pocket, and flipped it open.

"crap...8:50. we better get going."

he sighed, putting his phone back in his pocket.

Sokanon sighed and started off towards class "i wish we didnt have class to day' she said to herself thinking about the book back in her dorm

he walked beside her

"dont we all..."

"i dont know do we cino' she said looking to him

Cino, Light, and Sokanon all traveled together through the courtyard to their first class. It was quite usual to see the trio together like this, however there was one person always there to cause trouble for them, however he wasn't present that morning. The trio made it up to room 224 and took their respective seats. Light took his seat in the way back of the class room while Cino and Sokanon sat next to each other in front of him as to cover him just in case. Cino looked up at the clock which read 8:02.

"Heh, teacher isn't here yet, maybe she got caught in traffic?" Cino snickered a bit. There were about twenty other students besides them who had hunkered down in their respective clicks and groups and were having various conversations that varied from mall stories to parties. The short female teacher walked in through the room with her normal black suit which always preplexed the students. She did say she always wanted to look professional. Her hair was a dark brown which was about shoulder length.

"Alright class, I'm going to change things up for the mid-term. I have decided your mid-term will be based upon current events."
The teacher announced.

The class let out a huge sigh and moan as the teacher spoke.

"oh no" sokanon whispered "i dont have a clue on current events i am usually home reading" she said almost to the point of tears worried about mid terms now

he grinned, and put his head up

"well, now this is interresting. good thing I'm bored and have a computer. All I see is current crap" he whispered.

hearing light she turns "will you help me study then?" she asked pleading ly giveing him a helpless damsel in distress look

he looked at Sokanon

"maybe."

he grinned at her, and chuckled slightly

"PLEASE" she begged she really needed the help she knew she would fail if he didnt

There was a banging of heavy footsteps coming up the corridor to the history room and a shout from a teacher. "Ryo, stop running! You may well be late, but you'll walk like everyone else does!"
"Sorry sir!" Ryo shouted back. He opened the door, shut it quickly, looked at the clock and sighed. "Late again..." he said to himself annoyed. "Sorry i'm late, Miss" he said and prepared for the detention he was probably about to get...

he grinned, and turned around to see the student.

"well, least it aint me..." he whispered to himself. he turned to Sokanon

"your lucky I'm nice."

he chuckled a little.

"but add this to the other things you owe me. that makes...wow...I lost count."

The teacher pretty much disreguarded the student as he stumbled on into class and began passing out newspapers down the rows. Each student recieved a newspaper with the heading Disappearances Leave World Baffled!

"This is what your mid-term will be on. Its a rather interesting subject that has yet to occur in our history." The teacher continued.

"Does anyone care to summarize this latest event if you've been paying attention?" An eager young girl by the name of Saria raised her hand. The teacher looked at her with a smile.

"Yes Saria?"

"The disappearances that the world is giving so much attention to are very odd indeed since none of them have been able to be linked to crimes. Some have been proclaimed as crimes, however no proper evidence or suspects have been taken. Many of the disappearances have been random, but there have been a few sketchy reports of people vanishing through sidewalks, thin air, and some even just disappear right before one's eyes. I personally..." The teacher cut off the young girl by waving her hand.

"Thats quite enough Saria, I think everyone has the point without going into too much detail." The teacher then turned her attention to the back of the class.

"And you three back there, stop talking before I remove you from the class room!"

Cino looked over at the other two who had been conversating and just simply sighed knowing he wasn't talking. It was guilt by association, but he never really cared. He always stuck with his friends and they nearly always did the same...except for the time he got stuck doing cleanup because Light and Sokanon were asleep during their movie night, although he was pretty sure they were just faking i and making him pick up all the popcorn and other various beverage glasses around the room.

he grinned again

"good luck finding who it is ya old bat." he whispered to himself. he sighed, and looked at the newspapers. his eyes opened wide.

"dude...10,000 peole just disppearing..." he said in astonishment

what could be happening?

Sokanon kept quite as she read the paper in front of her she was begining to feel quite uncomforatble these clips giveing her a bad feeling she glanced at cino hopeing to not be alone withthis feeling

Cino glanced at the newspaper before him before dismissing the thought and folded the paper back to its original state. He noticed Sokanon looking at him.

"I could hardly believe any of this." Cino whispered as the teacher began lecturing. The teacher was walking down each row of students continuing about the subject before going to the board and starting to write things down with chalk.

sokanon sighed with a little relief maybe she was just getting worked up she did need to get some sleep even though she knew what she was doing when she got home anyway
