| Fill me in a bit. We don't get much American news over here.
I can tell you that we're having some controversy over here at the moment. Rudd's planning on buying the health system from the state parliment (to hopefully improve the system), and there's going to be a mandatory internet filter coming out late this year, which Anonymous is rallying against.

| Gibberish? Hardly.
As for the American news regarding health care, President Obama is trying to get congress to push through reform of the healthcare industry. It would, basically, expand the Medicare and Medicaid programs, government-run health care programs. It would also change the way the health-insurance industry would work.
A lot of people are worried about expanding government's influence on healthcare, though, and are afraid that it's moving the country closer to socialism. Which is apparently meant to kill the very notion instantly, but I digress.

| that's funny. I wouldn't see it as moving a country closer to socialism, I'd just say they're improving the health system, making the standards higher. | |

| The big worry is that government is getting too big, and encroaching too much on the people's lives. The opposition to the reform that Obama is pushing doesn't want government controlling healthcare, for various reasons, despite it's only forming a public option, not banning private insurance. | |

| It's funny how people react. as I said earlier on, our government is starting to take full control of the hospital system and people have been almost rallying for the government to put it's plan into action, yet when it comes to the the carbon reduction plans, people are divided down the middle with how the plan should be put to use (half are saying more needs to be done, while the other half think it's not needed yet).
plus the government controls more of our lives than we think they do. In the CBD in Sydney, there's pretty much a security camera at the end of every street. And there's been rumors that the Australian counterpart of the FBI have been tapping into people's phone lines for quite sometime now.
I think people should think carefully what they're opposing, since what the government is trying to do is make their lives more comfortable and easier. And the people think that the government is trying to go skynet on their asses.

| Pills help you understand big words? Where did you get them Tell me now.
But anyway, when Congress comes back from it's Autumn break, that's when the Senate and House are going to vote on it. It's expected to get through, seeing as the Democrats have the majority vote, but a lot of people aren't going to be happy about it, including some of the Democrats themselves.
And I agree with them. Trying to rush something this big through congress without giving people time to go through it with a fine-toothed comb is a bad idea, which will cause some quite bad things to happen.

| You're right there. Things that have been rushed through our government usually only last a few months then vanish (like the online shopping price site). Plus what ever they do will never please everyone. | |

| It's impossible to fail at my school. As long as you attempt it (no matter how bad) you'd end up passing. | |

| The teacher has a very bad way of teaching. All we do is questions. Probly done something like 5 practicals for the whole year. Though I'm dropping Physics, so I don't care about learning anymore. | |
