Regardless, teachers state the rules when classes start. It's pretty much enough after that. Teachers don't need kids flipping out their cell phones in the middle of class or having them fall out of their pockets. It's wise (and common sense) to keep cell phones in a secure place where they don't fall out. Also, 70% of kids who say that teachers suck is because they tell them things they don't want to do. It's like telling a little kid to color in a coloring, but they don't want to and they develop a dislikement to you.

Summary on school: To LEARN and get an EDUCATION! Not to argue and show disrespect to someone who is trying to show you how to be more successful in life. Even if a teacher seems like a bitch, they're only doing it for your own benefit, which ties in with leading a successful life.

My phone was in a place called my pocket. If you've never once had something fall out of your pocket, that's great. I wear basketball shorts, and it fell out. Now had her phone not been out in the open as well, maybe I would have let her take it. I was 16 at the time, and I treat everyone as an adult when I meet them, and so I expected to be treated the same as her. It was also a rule for teachers to not have cell phones out, and since mine didn't cause a distraction, I felt I should stand up for what was right. If you would just give up your phone on accident because the rules say so, cool. I don't work like that. If I felt I did something wrong, I'd take my punishment like a man.

Oh, and I didn't disrespect her, I treated her as my equal.

I'm usually very respectful of teachers, but some of them really do not know their shit so well. Especially those stuck at community and underfunded state colleges.

Ultimately what being a good teacher is knowing your shit so well, that you know more than you get paid for. The people who do anything for the money are never any good in their field. When someone is doing something that they would already be doing, and they are now just getting paid to do it, they will be a highly regarded contributor.

I guess the first lesson about knowing a good teacher is having a sense of whether they are doing it for the money or not.
