Okay why do swords always end up being the strongest weapon in the game? I mean seriously They always are in Final Fantasy games. I know what your gonna say "Oh every character has their own speical weapon" TRUE! but swords tend to be the strongest.

Now I know there is gonna be some arguments about FFXII with the Zodiac Spear and all. The truth of the matter that Weapon is NOT the strongest. The strongest for that game is the Wyrm Hero blade. It maybe the slowest damn weapon in the game but its combo rate is 80% meaning u could get like a 8 combo so easly and beat the Zodiac Spear in damage, and when equipped with the Genji Gloves, well lets just not go there.

What are all ya thoughts on this

This boils down to giving the people what they want. When we think of fantasy, we think of swords and dragon slaying. We think of strong knights that ride with their swords ready to do some damage. We think of armies of sword wielding men.

In short, the sword is the overwhelming most popular weapon. There are a lot of different ways to make a sword so designing new weapons can be easy. There's not as many ways to change up the look of an axe, spear, or staff.

The sword is accepted as a powerful weapon in both japanese and western culture. The only other one is the gun, and it doesn't work as well with the fantasy aspect. Swords and hot chicks sell, and that's what ff gives you every time.
