I haven't a clue if there's already a topic like this or if I'm even posting in the right place...

Sometimes I find that people get too hung up on stereotypes and then they don't ever give themselves a chance to know the real person...the person behind the stereotype.

Sure, in many cases stereotypes apply otherwise they obviously wouldn't have come into existence but I don't agree with them.

Below is a link to the main page of the project started by AnominusMidge on Deviant Art. It's all about "breaking-the-molds". Sure, some of the photos people took aren't exactly...well I find them somewhat lacking in skill but I applaud every single one of the people who took them and had the courage to stand up and just say "I am me".

breaking-the-molds<---click me

This is a topic open to discussion as long as it relates to stereotypes-agree? disagree? anything you are categorised as?

Ready, steady GO!

I have one. lol. this is me right here.

"I speak my mind, so I must be a Bitch."

OK!

If you speak your mind, then your just expressing your ideas and beliefs, your own opinion. So you hurt someones feelings. So you might lose a freind or two. your being yourself. So they call you a bitch. If your a bitch for speaking your mind, then I'm probably one f the biggest bitches you'll ever meet. I speak my mind, and I dont care if it hurts or if you dont wanna hear it. your gonna hear it anyway. I tell you because I'm angry. I tell you because its the truth. I tell you because sometimes the truth hurts less than lies. So call me a bitch. say it to my face. If speaking your mind makes you a bitch, then I'm a bitch. Yeah, so what? What does that say about people who dont? that their fine, that their what others want them to be? Their trapped in their own little world where what they think is right is wrong, and that they have to be like everyone else to be popular, or to fit in. Fuck fittin in. You cant be yourself if your like everyone else pal. Its either you or them. Your mind vs. their ideas on what they THINK you should think and believe. If you give into them, then you might as well look like them, talk like them, and say your name is theirs. Because what are you if not yourself?

ok, thats all I have for now. I'll probably have more later.

honestly gabi, this is a great topic, and aaryn, that was a nice thought.

but as for my contributions, this would take all day. I've been judged so much for breaking the mold. I always will too, but that's ok I'll just be me no matter how much negative things come my way.

I'm GAY, so I MUST have AIDS!

I'm a pagan, so I MUST be a satan worshipper!

I'm a liberal, so I MUST be gay!

I'm an atheist, so I MUST hate the world!

These are the ones that I'm a part of.

Excluding the nerd and Asian ones. There are too many of those. Razz

Well, some of the sterotype are somewhat true. like this one:

"I've kissed alot of guys..so I must be worthless." Thats disgusting! :/

"I wear courset..so I must be a stripper." So? I wear courset once in a while. and dumb people who don't know me well label me as "gothic" or "emo". which pisses me off.

And I know how style are similar with other group. How emo kids wear skinny jeans. but guess what? so do preppy girls. I find that true state.
You can't sterotype anyone like that. You need to get to know the person before you can say anything.

I've had many bad experience with two main nationality. But I won't say it here. Since I had that bad experience, it gives me a clear sterotype
in my mind, but I rather think twice and not judge a person...until I notice
he/she action. But who knows...maybe the sterotype will fade away once
everyone gives everyone a chance to get to know each other. Very Happy

Stereotypes? Pfft, I whoop anyone's ass who stereotypes me or the people I care for. ....Okay, not really. Razz

But seriously, what is the deal with stereotypes? It makes me really pissed off. When I was in high school, those slutty ass bitches who think everyone likes them ditched one of their "good friends" because she played Final Fantasy. Supposedly, Final Fantasy is for nerds and people who sit in their rooms all day. I got so mad, I walked up to them and called them "Bitches" and "Posers". Ever since, the girl they ditched and I have been great friends.

Stereotypes will always remain with us, no matter how much we try to stop steroetyping. Same thing happened thousands and thousands of years ago, like how African-Americans were considered dirty and a disgrace to be human and were supposedly were meant to be slaves by those mistakingly savage white people because they had colored skin.

Alright, two things wrong with the phrase "African Americans"

One: You're assuming they're american.

Two: You're also assuming that all black people came from Africa. Which they didn't.

most of the black people in america are the descendents of Africans. And typically, when they're here, they're american. because tif is in america, so those are the ones she knows. Besides, she was speaking about the past, when they did all come from africa in the slave tradings.

AND

that wasn't thousands and thousands of years ago. There was deliberate racism (prominently, there still is today but less) only 50 years ago.

What I find hilarious about it that that the speeches of anti-gay church officials today about how gays are trying to take over the country,

are almost, word for word, exactly like the speeches back in the day from anti-black suffrage about how blacks are trying to take over this country. XDDDDD
